Don’t Quit (Pt. 2)

A week ago I wrote the first Don’t Quit post. Those very words had been playing over and over in my head. Usually when that happens, I have to do something with what I’m hearing or seeing or it will persist. So as I often do, I wrote about it. I wanted to hopefully inspire someone even though at the time I was feeling rather uninspired.

The month of January had taken me on an emotional roller coaster. I applied to countless jobs only to get one call back and an interview. A few days after that interview a dear friend of mine passed away unexpectedly. I began to doubt and second guess everything I was doing and even whether or not I should remain in Las Vegas, NV. I’ve gone through a lot in the 5 and a half years that I’ve been here.

After hiding under my covers for almost a week grieving, I was notified that I did not get the position. Which was probably best given my emotional state. The entire month of February, I assisted my dear friend’s 25 year-old daughter with going through the necessary process of gaining legal guardianship of her younger siblings. I also began planning my departure from Las Vegas.  Yes, I was prepared to throw in the towel and head back to California to be around my family.

The Queen Maker BoutiqueThe last week of February is when things began changing. I wrote the don’t quit post and immediately something shifted. I was contacted by two different individuals that were interested in purchasing “My Scars” tees in bulk. One being Domonique “Pastor D” Scott from TLC’s The Sisterhood and the other a friend in North Carolina. The simple words “Don’t Quit” took on a greater meaning in my life. I now had a reason to fight for everything that I’ve worked hard for in this past year.

And if that wasn’t enough, I received an email last week from the one job that I had interviewed with that had decided to go with another candidate. I was asked if I was still looking for a position. Of course my response was yes. We scheduled a time for me to go in to meet with them again. Well I am now the Creative Attaché for a National Business Development Company, delayed but not denied.

God knew that with everything that had transpired in January that I would not be able to take on a job at that time. But He also saw all my other needs and provided for each one of them, financially, physically and spiritually. You may not see a way out of your present situation. You may feel like every door and opportunity has been blocked but don’t quit. God is faithful and His timing is always perfect.

If you have been following my blog for a while, then you also know that my background is in Psychology. I did not go to school for Journalism, PR or anything relative to that field. I have just been using the gift(s) that God gave me. Last year, I was given a position with a local newspaper as a Staff Writer. Now, as a Creative Attaché, I will be utilizing those same gifts that I have worked hard to develop for the past few years to fulfill the job. And RN Brand Tees will be sold in 3 different States and will make their debut in the UK in two weeks!!! Your gifts will make room if you Don’t Quit!!!  Many of us quit just before the  point of a breakthrough but hold on and hold fast.

Don’t Quit

purposed

purposed (Photo credit: frances bell)

If you have been visiting my site and reading my post for a while, I am sure you are probably wondering what happened to all of the messages of inspiration and hope.  I have added quite a few new features which will remain, but the fact of the matter is, even the one who inspires needs to be inspired.  The other day, it was as if I could here the words “Don’t Quit” just as audible in my ears as if someone was speaking to me.

Have you ever felt like you were giving something your all and it wasn’t giving you anything in return?  These past few months have been some of the hardest.  However, each night before I go to sleep, I pray and thank God for keeping a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food to eat.  I wake up some mornings wanting to quit and something whispers and says, “Don’t Quit”.  And I am just crazy enough to keep listening.

You see, quitting is easy.  The obstacles, the disappointments and failed plans are always there waiting to get the best of you.  But determination tells you to push through all that, fight for that one yes and by all means “Don’t Quit”.  Those obstacles are there to teach you and the failed plans are for your protection.

If I had gotten everything that I wanted or if everything had gone my way, I wouldn’t be living out the purpose for my life.  Purpose is the reason I can’t quit.  It keeps me up at night and wakes me up in the morning.  It is the reason why I live and breath.  I am fulfilled merely by living out my life’s purpose.

So here is what I want you to do.  I want you to start March off with a clean slate.  February is behind you and you can’t go back.  It’s a new month, which should bring new goals, new plans and new opportunities that will help push you one step closer.  I am determined to see this vision through and fulfill my purpose and you should be too.  Don’t quit!

“I show my scars so that others know they can heal.”

Book Review: Walk In Your Power

Walk In Your Power BookKanina Johnson did an excellent job breaking down the Law of Attraction along with 11 other universal laws.  Walk In Your Power was a quick and easy read but it was full of a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.  It is not often that I will do a book review.  I usually stick to author interviews or guest post features.  After reading Walk In Your Power, I knew that I had to write a review.  Kanina Johnson begins the book sharing some of her personal story and why she desired to seek out the knowledge and wisdom that she shares.  I connected with the author early on from her personal story.  Johnson wrote the book in a way that was so easy to understand and apply the tools.

This book taught me so much about the scriptures that I meditate on, the promises that I know God has spoken into my life and how to truly welcome those promises into my life.  For a lot of believers, I have noticed it is hard for them to embrace and attempt to understand the Law of Attraction.  For some, they feel that the belief in the Law of Attraction is contrary to believing in God.  Walk In Your Power does not add or subtract from who God is.   While breaking down the Law of Attraction, Walk In Your Power gives more incite into the scriptures that we have been taught but so many lack true understanding.

Walk In Your Power covers the Law of Attraction and 11 other Universal Laws that operate in our lives, whether we are aware of them or not.

1. Law of Thinking: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  Proverbs 23:7

2. Law of Forgiveness: “Forgive and you shall be forgiven.” Luke 6:37

These are just a couple of the laws that were mentioned.  I made so many notes and I am sure I will be reading this book again.  One scripture that comes to mind is Philippians 4:7, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”  Focus on those things that you desire in your life and more of it will be added.  When we choose to honor God with our lives our thoughts should align.

Walk In Your Power closes with a discussion on vision and purpose.  One quote that stood out to me was, “You will not see the second step until you have taken the first”.  Start moving forward in the vision that God has laid out for you.  Trust that He will order each step if your trust Him with the first.  Get your copy of Walk In Your Power. You can also connect with Kanina Johnson on Facebook.

Year End: Going Out With A Bang

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end one week and start another. On this past Saturday, I was so excited to finally host Mission Possible, a vision board workshop I had envisioned over a year ago. It was a great success and each participant was full of so much energy. They were all so attentive and ready to take in all that was being shared.

20121209-174948.jpg

I always start off by sharing a portion of my personal story. Almost 3 years ago, I found myself out of a job and not knowing what my next move would be. Single mother of 5 with no source of income, in a different State from my family and support system. When I first moved to NV, I could feel an overwhelming sense of need. When I say need, I mean services, hope, direction and more. I started writing a program plan then to provide a continuum of services within the community from adolescence on through adulthood. That very plan sat dormant for two years. But during the first two years here, I was hired by the County to work as a case manager. I was basically providing the services that I had written about. However, I also got an inside view of what was really lacking in the State that I was now residing in. It was as if God had provided a means to get on the job training for the work He was preparing me to do.

So fast forward, after losing my job, I had to shake off the frustration and disappointment of losing it and realize that God had even greater plans. I remember sitting in my livingroom one day and I was reminded of the business plan that I had once written. In that moment, Mother 2 Mother was born. I always get excited when I share that story. Mission Possible is not just an event but a true life testimony. If you have visited my site before, then you also know that during this time I began writing my book.

“Need nothing, desire everything.”

I began writing my book on my blackberry. At the time, I didn’t have a computer but I made use of what I had. I downloaded every app under the sun that I thought I would need. I explained to the group that when we start feeling as though we “need” something what we are actually lacking is creativity. I got creative. I even started my blog on my blackberry. When I needed to spruce up my blog, I went to the library. I was eventually able to purchase my computer. But I didn’t let what would have appeared to be an obstacle stand in my way.

“Delight yourself in Him and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

The Law of Attraction may not be for everyone.  But before I was introduced to the Law of Attraction, I read the book of Genesis.  Abraham was a man of faith.  He believe that God would deliver just what He had promised.  He believed it so, that he trusted that if God didn’t do it in his lifetime then his children would be blessed.  And if his children didn’t receive it that their children would be blessed.  Yes, I went there.  Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were men of faith and the faith they had is still here today.  Tap into that faith and get started.

There is no doubt in my mind that everyone left motivated and inspired to begin moving forward with their dreams and goals.

Then on Sunday, I celebrated my 5 year old’s birthday. We’ve added two new members to the family, Nemo and Plex. Let’s just hope mommy can keep them alive.   We ended the birthday evening with a tiramisu cake at the request of the birthday boy.

Author Interview: The Blood Done Signed My Name

The Blood Done Signed My Name

The Blood Done Signed My Name

The Blood Done Signed My Name: M. Ann RICKS

  • What genre would you say your books fall into? My novels are Christian Fiction.
  • Who or what inspires your writing? I am inspired by God as a result of my Savior Jesus Christ! The Holy Spirit gives me the premise for my stories and downloads the sentiment and the words so that I may do what we as followers of Jesus were anointed to do: Share the gospel of Jesus Christ. By doing this through the words He gives me, He will heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to those who are in bondage, give sight to the blind, free those who are oppressed and proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord.
  • How did your upbringing impact your beliefs and relationship with God? My upbringing was, church, school and home-life. Most of my activities, aside for participating in school activities, (plays and performances) were church related. I am very fortunate that I have the best parents a girl could have! My parents kept me in church and that is where I thrived and as a result, I am forever grateful to them! My relationship with God however became stronger in my adult life.
  • Was there ever a period in your life that you went against or strayed away from what you had been taught? I think we have all backslidden, (myself included) and that’s why I love my Savior so much! He is always willing to welcome you back into the family with open arms! Reminding us to “go and sin no more!” His word tells us that we shouldn’t sin but…“And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1 His word also tells us, “ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9
  • If so, what led you back to Christ? His LOVE, The truth of His Word! ….Not what man said but what He said! He allowed me to confront why I had not immersed myself in Him and what I need to do to be free… I mean really free! Glory to God!
  • Who is your favorite character in The Blood Done Signed My Name? I haven’t a favorite character but if I simply love the way God used me to write Ms. Sadie! She has the quiet strength and firm but patient love that I find necessary in today’s world to help those who have lost their way.
  • Describe the process you go through for developing your characters. Crazily enough, I haven’t a special process. All three of my novel’s premises were given to me during my quiet time with God. Rhachelle, I want to be used by Him and because I make that my priority, I become open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. As I am writing, He will give me names as I use the gift of writing to share their story. He allows me to simply write. He instructs me throughout the process, downloading what He knows someone will need to read to experience His love and as a result they are blessed! I am truly being used as a vessel for His handiwork!
  • What message do you hope to convey to your readers through you’re THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME? The message that I would love for all to receive from THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME is that regardless of who you are, what your family lineage looks like, whatever you’ve done, whatever has been done to you, the blood of Jesus can make you a new creature because of its power. God loves us so much and because He loves us, He sacrificed His only son Jesus. Jesus became the sacrifice for us and all that we have done and are going to do. We have been absolved and even justified. We can walk in freedom and liberty because of what Jesus did. A new life is available for those who believe!
  • As a full-time writer was there ever a time that your faith was tested? How did you refocus and keep moving forward? There were struggles along the way…. Yes indeed! There were delays, rewrites, rejections and faith fights! At times I was my worst enemy! There were many days I was so discouraged, I wanted to simply give up. I’m so thankful Rhachelle, that God is faithful even we forget what He’s promised. “God is not a man, that He should lie, ….Has He said, and will He not do? … has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19
  • Do you have any upcoming projects? It is my hope to assist other Christian writers with my literary workshop for aspiring Christian writers called, “Conversations…. Writing to Reconcile”. I had the wonderful opportunity to share it regionally but would love to be afforded a venue that could allow me to do so nationally. As believers in Christ it is our mandate to reconcile others to God. Using our literary gifts is certainly one way we can accomplish that awesome task. Additionally, for all who are interested, I distribute electronically, (on-line), a monthly newsletter, M. Ann’s Literary Communiqué and prayerfully it will continue to increase in circulation. Lastly, I’ve begun my 4th novel, The SHIFT!
  • Any final words for the readers? I so appreciate the readers taking the time to read this interview! I feel incredibly BLESSED!
    M. Ann Ricks

3 Things You Must Have in 2013

Vision_Board_Sept_2010_inprogress

Vision_Board_Sept_2010_inprogress (Photo credit: WiseWellWoman)

If I was to lose all of my material possessions today, there would be 3 things that I would try my best to hold on to.  2011 and 2012 have taught me the importance of having a vision, plan or goal, and a journal to write it all down.

Vision:  A vision forces you to be in tune with who you are and what you were created to be.  A vision puts the focus on the outcome and not the current circumstances.  It allows you to push through the most difficult times, knowing that it won’t be like this always.  A vision keeps you up late at night and gives life to your purpose.

Plan or Goal:  Your plan or goal(s) become the very blueprint to navigating through your vision.   While the vision keeps you focused on the end result, your plans and goals tell you that there is still some work to be done.  You begin to see what you can do and what you may need assistance with completing.  Your weaknesses and strengths may be revealed but instead of being discouraged you may just add a new goal to the list.

Journal:  “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to ] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by.” Habakkuk 2:2  Yes, you need something to write all down in.  When you begin to write things down, rewrite them and further explain them it makes it easier for people to understand and even assist with bringing the vision to past.  You have to understand, know and believe in whatever it is that you are working towards.  In 2011, I wrote that I wanted to create my own t-shirt line.  I didn’t know how I was going to do it and how soon it would all take place but the more I wrote about it, the more things were revealed.  I’ve been spending the last few weeks reflecting on journal entries.  Some of the things taking place in my life right now, were a mere journal entry a year ago.

I promise you, if you can hold onto these three things you will begin to see things happen.  On Dec. 8th, Mission Possible, a vision board event that I wrote in my journal a year ago will finally take place.  Daja Robinson of No Boiz Allowed and I are excited and grateful for all those who have helped to make this possible.  FireHouse Subs for providing lunch for our guest.  Zari Banks for her countless donations to Mother 2 Mother down throughout the year, Kanina Johnson for gifting a copy of her book, Walk In Your Power and many more.  If you are in the Las Vegas area, join us.  You do not want to miss this event!

Wanza Leftwich: Faith and Fertility

I may not know much about infertility but I do know about the power of prayer and standing on God’s word.  I am so happy to welcome Wanza Leftwich, author of Faith and Fertility.  She has an awesome testimony to share!
1. How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing for twelve years now. Isn’t amazing how fast time goes by!

2. What genre best describes your writing?
My fiction genre is classified as Urban Christian Fiction – the tell it like it is, no holds barred type of Christian writing that depicts real people serving a real God. I also write non-fiction which tends to have the type of impact – writing that is real, transparent andaimed at helping others.

3. What inspired your most recent book?
My most recent book was inspired by my personal life. Faith and Fertility: All Things Are Possible comes directly from my heart. It is about my experience through infertility and how God enabled me to get rid of an infertility defeated mindset.

4. Was it difficult to write on the subject?
Honestly, it was not difficult to write, but i find that the content may be challenging to women who are suffering through infertility. It is not written to keep women in despair or sadness. It gives hope and encourages the reader to activate their faith and believe for the impossible.

5. On twitter, you go by @TheGospelWriter. How did you come up with that name?

Can you believe I recently gave up that name as my twitter handle? I absolutely loved that name. When I first began writing I was taught that you should have a brand. The Gospel Writer became my name because I write about the Gospel of Jesus Christ Be it fiction and non-fiction, I encourage readers to grow in their walk with Christ. Recently, I’ve changed my twitter handle to my name @WanzaLeftwich to represent the brand that is evolving now.

6. How do you balance writing your own books and novels with editing those of others?
I am learning to not take on more than I can handle :-) . Basically, I schedule my clients according to the deadlines that I have. I try not overload my schedule. This works best for me and my clients. I able to meet my deadlines and my clients receive the personal attention that their books deserves.

7. What is the one thing that you would tell someone who is interested in writing a book but has some reservations?
Just write! Get it all out of your system. Don’t worry about editing, grammar or structure. Get it on paper. Let your thoughts flow. Let your heart speak freely. You will be surprised what comes out. Most importantly, don’t be fearful. Someone needs your words.

8. Who motivated you and have you that extra push to begin writing?
I was motivated by my sister in law who self published three books. She told me what I tell people everyday – “just write”. As simple as it sounds, it works. I’m motivated to keep writing when I hear that someone’s life has been changed because of my words.

9. What can we expect from you in the near future?
I’m glad that you asked! I am headed in a new direction. My book Faith and Fertility has ushered me into a new area. With the launch of my
new site(in a few days), www.wanzaleftwich.com, my mission is to encourage women struggling with infertility to overcome it with faith.
I have a series of courses coming out including, the Infertility Defeated Mindset Bootcamp. And of course, you can expect another book, Infertility Defeated.

10. Any last words?
Thank you so much for this interview. I’ve truly enjoyed it! As always, you and your readers can connect with me socially on

Lord I Want To Be Made Whole

“No benefit can ever come from regretting our past.”  Author Paulette Harper-Johnson takes us on a journey to wholeness, being complete and lacking nothing.   This book will open you up, show you your heart and issues, then put you all back together.   I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover.   This book is for everyone, it does not matter where you are at in your journey.   The Author used some of her own testimony, scripture and wisdom to provide an excellent guide to the reader.   I read this using a kindle app and I must say that did not keep me from highlighting certain key points made by the Author.   Completely Whole is definitely a book that I can see myself reading again.  ”Move forward, understanding that suffering, pain, and troubles are not necessarily attacks from the enemy, but can be God’s way of bringing you to a place of surety in him. ”
About the Book
Completely Whole is resource filled- guide full of practical and Biblically-based principles, real-life application strategies and prayers to give the readers a holistic approach to living a life of wholeness through Jesus. Christ. This book is inspiring, optimistic, hopeful and encouraging while providing a clear-cut, scriptural blueprint for each reader to follow as they allow the Word and the power of God to transform their pain and restore their lives on their road to becoming Completely Whole.
Harper plainly states that “words have the power and ability to create (76)” which can place you in a position to be completely whole. The purpose of her book Completely Whole is to “bring the reader to the place of wholeness—spirit, soul and body.” She provides a biblical foundation, personal experiences, prayer and a confession in each chapter to give a voice of reason to the women who cry out to learn more about who they are, where they are to go and why it is so important to know God’s word. Her personal walk is the example within the text. Jewell Williams Ministries

Sunday Mourning Book Tour

On Tour July 14th – July 24th…

Synopsis:

Sunday Mourning may be Friday night for some, addiction for others or the absence of a mother and/or father for a few. But its those almost unforgiveable or damaging mistakes that are made by the person(s) that gives life and ultimately teaches us. The mistakes that impact us in a way that we don’t understand until we end up repeating the same behavior.

Sunday Mourning looks into the life of a preacher’s kid whose household lived by the principle, “what goes on in this house, stays in this house”. All which included emotional and physical abuse and impacted a young girls faith in God and the entire concept of church and religion. A young girl watched her mom kneel and pray but no change. Bring forth the message on Sunday Mourning but raise hell throughout the week.

Sunday morning finally came and it opened up a revelation of hope, love and forgiveness, putting an end to the vicious cycle.

Sunday morning stopped being a weekly routine and started being a lifestyle change, a healing process and revealing of a divine purpose. Rhachelle Nicol’ was no longer the nothing, her mother told her she would be. She no longer lived in the shadows of self doubt because she was told “people are not going to like you because you have my name”.

The cycle was finally being broken, the healing was finally beginning and a new life of transparency was being revealed. The guilt and shame that had to be broken through was undeniable and at one point death was chosen over life.

About The Author:

Rhachelle Nicol’ is mother, author, speaker, writer and advocate, who discovered that her life purpose is to bring healing and hope to others. Rhachelle Nicol’ has worked with abused and neglected children, juvenile delinquents and high risk families, to reunify, redirect and assist families with accessing resources to function at their highest level for over 15 years.  She is the Founder of Mother 2 Mother CDC, an organization providing preventative services to at risk mothers and families. Rhachelle Nicol’ is very transparent in her approach when working with families. “I show my scars so that others know they can heal.” Her mission in life is to inspire others to heal and grow while allowing their dreams to take root. “I can, I will, I am…We can, We will, We are…with God all things are possible.”  Sunday Mourning is a life testament of what God can and will do when we surrender it all to him, the good, the bad and the ugly.
