Dark Expectation by Janeira Eldridge

Guest Post: How to Build An Online Fan Base

Many authors fear the dreaded routine of marketing but it’s more fun (and a lot easier) than authors realize. There are three simple marketing steps I’ve used to sell my books that I hope will help authors sell their books as well.

1.      Be Yourself: People are actually shocked by this step because it is extremely simple! You want to make sure you have a decent online presence on at least Twitter and Facebook since so many people turn to the internet to find information on the books they buy (this is in addition to your offline presence).  I’ve found, as a dedicated reader that I loved connecting with my favorite authors through FB or Twitter. I was also more apt to buy their books if I felt like I knew a little bit about them. Don’t bore everyone with continual promotion posts for your books. Write about those bad hair days, those happy moments and those OMG moments. Give your readers a little taste of who you are and you’d be surprised to see they give a lot of reading love back.

2.      Share Other’s Content: Don’t get stingy as you climb the ranks of social media, they call it social media for a reason.  Browse your timeline every now and then to find interesting posts. Comment on them to let people know you care about what they post as well. What really makes someone feel appreciated is sharing their content. You’re saying “hey, what you’re saying is so great I have to share it with my friends!” Your friends appreciate you sharing their content and are more likely to share your content in return. More people sharing your posts means more people finding out about your book!

3.      Be Fresh; Be Consistent: This step can be the hardest for a lot of authors but it is not that bad when you get the hang of it. Provide fresh content when posting through social media. This can be done by sharing other people’s content and posting a variety of your own activities instead of the same thing over and over again.  As far as being consistent goes, don’t spam the people on your Timeline. As little as 4 solid posts a day to FB or Twitter along with interaction is enough to keep your fans happy and connected to you.

There are so many ways to effectively market your book on the internet but these three are the first simple steps of conquering the internet.

Guest Post with Janiera Eldridge – Marketing: Indie Style

Marketing: Indie Style

Marketing is not an easy task even if you’re a traditionally published author. However, when you’re an indie author all of the marketing responsibility is on you. You’re completely responsible for your own editing and although you’re not spending money, you want to make sure that the time not spent writing your next novel is well spent. I’ve been getting so many questions asking me how I self-published my book and how I market it, I could teach a class (I think I will lol). Here are just some brief answers to the most popular questions I’ve received lately:

When should I start promoting my book?
This answer surprises a lot of authors but the answer is, while you’re writing! It will take you twice as long to sell your books if you don’t begin building your social media presence while writing your book. Share with your followers the good and the bad experiences. When people feel like they know you and the process you went through to bring your book to life, they are more likely to buy that book.

Share Others Content.
I know, it sounds crazy right? However, it is true. Don’t just tweet about your book or post about your book on Facebook; share other people’s most interesting content. People like to know that their content is interesting to others and that it is being shared. When the time comes that you have an interesting bit to share people will be more than happy to share it. It not only keeps your content fresh but it builds a community every time you do it.

Make sure you’re everywhere important:
You’re more than welcome to promote your book offline. However, you need to make sure that you have your social media bases covered. All authors need to be on Facebook, Twitter and now Pinterest. These websites have the biggest audience so, sharing your content in these venues are a must. Then, if you want to share your content in other venues such as Goodreads and other book groups there just considered an added bonus. Always dedicate the most time to the websites that bring you the most traffic!

Marketing for indie authors can be a definite challenge but it doesn’t have to be hard. With a lot of practice, it can also be fun!

Having Fun While Saving Money

I am so excited. I had the opportunity to interview Janiera Eldridge, Author of Having Fun While Saving Money and it couldn’t have come at a better time. As a mother of five, planning out activities for extended weekends, Spring Break and Summer vacation can be quite expensive. I am thankful that someone took the time out to show me and you how to save. Here are a few of the questions I was able to ask:

When did you first realize you enjoyed writing?
I knew I loved writing when I was in high school. I loved books to much that it encouraged me to write little short stories. I’ve written stories that have never been published but, I enjoyed writing them anyways.

Which genre is your favorite? Why?
I love the paranormal genre because they are almost always filled with awesome twist and turns.

What kind of benefits can your readers get from your latest release?
This book really was done in a labor of love. It was not designed to talk down to anyone but to give people fun and non-risky ways to save money during these difficult economic times.

What motivated you to write this book?
I really wanted to share the ways I’ve been able to have fun during the hard times for free with as many people as possible.

What did you learn from writing the book?
I learned even more cool ways to have fun without spending a lot of money. I also learned that the best things in life really are free.

How has your family benefited?
My mother is a discount hound just like me so she signed up to a lot of the same programs that I have. We have received numerous gift cards and prizes because of our participation through these programs. We also have learned how to do things around town the unconventional way and have a really good time.

What is your favorite activity that you do with your family on a budget?
I love going to a matinee movie and a mid day lunch with the family. It saves money and gives us a lot to talk about.

How long did it take for you to discover all the activities and write your book?
This book was really a work in progress and a collection of things I’ve been doing over the years. When I start to research something I can’t stop; I’m totally into to it. The few things I had to research only took me a few days to look up and include in the book.

So what does a typical outing with you and your consist of? On average what is the cost?
The typical outing for my family of four and I include a day at the park, pool or a downtown event and a lunch. Then my mother comes home and cooks us a wonderful dinner. She is an amazing cook and the meals she comes up with are amazing.

What can your readers expect from you next?
I’m almost finished with a fantasy novel entitled Soul Sisters. It’s about African- American twin sisters and one is a vampire and one is a human.I’m really excited about finishing it and looking for a publisher. Fiction is where my heart lies in writing so from now on you can expect nothing but fiction from me.
