Death Row

Yesterday evening, we witnessed the death of a man, Troy Davis, that may or may not have been guilty of the crimes committed.  Today, though some continue to mention the issues that plague our legal system, most have gone back to their day to day.  As I thought about the issues at hand,  one thing struck me, so many people live their day to day lives on “Death Row“, awaiting their day of execution.

So many people wake up each morning with nothing to live for, no dreams to pursue and lack any ambition or motivation to change their circumstances.  Do we stand up and fight for them?  We have a system, which has developed an industry out of the heinous acts and crimes committed, that preys on the illiteracy of our youth and adults and consistently gives hand outs while never helping to lift up.   Our system does not provide rehabilitation, but a training ground to be a better thief, liar and criminal.

“How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the person of the wicked? Selah.  Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.  Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.”  Psalm 82:3  I wake up everyday fighting for these individuals to have clemency and be granted a second chance at life.  I let them know that the decisions that were made by their mother or father do not have to be the same decisions they make for their own lives.  I tell those that are seeking change to forgive themselves of their past and start taking the necessary steps towards a brighter future.

So many complain and desire to see change, but never put themselves in a position to influence the change they desire.   We have a system that sustains generational curses and deficiencies.  Now is the time for the “Church” to takes its rightful place.  It is a season of healing, a season that strongholds and generational curses will be broken.  Now is the time to walk in our power.  “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; an if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”  Mark 16:17-18

What can you do today, that will influence change tomorrow?!?

Day 20 – I Am Beyond Appalled

“WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – When it comes to teaching our daughters about the magic of motherhood some parents are turning to a new toy. The doll is called ‘Breast Milk Baby’ and it’s causing quite a controversy.” (Click on the picture to read the complete news article)

So who or what is teaching our young girls, daughters, ladies to be mothers? Why is there such a hurry for them to grow up? It’s time to slow them down. I was apalled at this when my co-worker showed me a clip of a commericial for this doll. The first thing that came to my mind was that my daughter is still working on being a big sister and preparing for kindergarten. Why would she need a doll that she can pretend to breastfeed? What message is being sent out? You turn on the TV and MTV has exploited young teen moms as they struggle with life prior and after having their children. Motherhood is not easy and not some fairytale. It should be planned and all parties involved should be prepared.

We have been bombarded by the schools trying to teach our children about sexuality and the acceptance/tolerance of homosexuality. We have been bombarded with the media and it so-called “Reality TV”. When does it stop? Why are we not out protesting anymore? Is it enough to say, “well I am going to raise my child to understand right from wrong”? No it is not! What happened to our villages? Am I not my brother or sister’s keeper? Parents are getting younger and grandparents are still raising their own children, not having any time to help train up the young mothers. To continue to live with blinders on as if it won’t affect your child(ren), I find to be ignorant.

Ok that is my rant for the evening. Let’s talk about it.

Realizing the Dream

“But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” ~Dr. Martin Luther King~ I Have A Dream

I could never re-write something as profound as the historical “I Have A Dream” speech delivered by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But I can say thank you. Dr. King carried a cross for all Americans to one day have the freedom that was rightfully theirs. In his death we realized the power of a dream. The challenge that we have to day is understanding that we are the dream. The dream lies within each one of us. We are to speak those things that aren’t as though they were.

The other day as I revisited the “I Have A Dream” speech, I began to cry. It was as if I could feel his strong and overwhelming desire for each one of us to realize our power and our rightful place. Who wouldn’t? He had seen the vision, he wrote the vision and he wanted to empower all of us with the understanding that we have a God given right to live the vision.

I live for that day when we begin to understand that with God’s Promises there is no competition. When we will be able to come together in ministry and “none will go lacking”. When we will have more ministries operating outside of the church instead of auxilaries within the church. I live for the day when the Body of Christ will truly understand what it means to be set apart, while transforming a nation.

We have paid attention for so long to the messenger but we missed the message and the power behind it. Words have the power to wound and heal, influence and change, use them. But use them wisely. This historical speech has the power to transform, the power to ignite and the power to change if we can all realize the dream that lies within each of us.

“Like anybody I would like to live a long life. Longevity has it’s place but I’m not concerned about that now, I just want to do God’s will….So I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. MY EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE COMING OF THE LORD.” – Dr. King

Nothing New Under the Son

History always has a way of repeating itself. Is it by chance or for a Divine Purpose? I am not one to stay up to speed on much of the news, politics, economy, etc. However, one thing I do pay a lot of attention to are the things that motivate others. I guess you could say, I am a “people watcher”.

It seems like “The American Dream” and the pursuit of obtaining that reality has been a consistent motivator for generations. We have fought to climb the ladder, killed for the sake of limiting someone’s dream and even sold each other when we couldn’t realize or fathom that we were all created out of the likeness and image of one greater power. Perhaps, “The American Dream” had become the religion that we all longed to become members of even though we had been given the right to “Religious Freedom”.

We took the backseat on issues, such as prayer in schools, the legalization of same-sex marriages and even the right for an innocent life to be taken, we called that Pro-choice. If we can understand that most of these changes actually transpired because of the fight of an individual that spread their message, as we were instructed to do, “Go ye therefore…”, then we can start to understand how we became indoctrinated and included on a roll sheet that we were never purposed to follow.

So why now has our economy crashed, unemployment levels on the rise, wars breaking out and an entire shift, that I feel, taken place? One word, in my mind, restoration. We are seeing how greed, self-centeredness, pride, arrogance and deceit can lead to the fall of any man. Even the prodigal son had to return back home, before he could be cleaned up and restored back into his rightful place.

Are you in position? Naturally, the family is going to be the necessary and fundamental aspect of the foundation that first needs to be restored. We went from one parent working homes, to two parent working homes and now we are lucky if either parent is working. Our villages have been ambushed and there is no longer any accountability. I am my brothers keeper. However, a family that does not submit to God, will soon fall victim to the religion of “The American Dream” and repeat the cycle that we are preparing to recover from. Who will take the lead in this transformation? It seems simple right, the Church. I have recoginized that I am the church, you are the church, WE ARE THE CHURCH. So what are we going to do? Influence the change that we were suppose to influence, through obedience, deligence, perserverance, faith, power and love. Be the change that God called you to be. He said if I be lifted up, I would draw all men unto me. Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it.

I am ready for change. Restoration is here. The wealth of the world is laid up for the righteous. If Moses had been following after “The American Dream”, the children of Egypt would still be in bondage. Well, we have led and left an entire generation back into Egypt and in order to be delivered over into the land of milk and honey, we must pull them out one at a time. Yes, we are going to go up against Pharoah’s army(The government). You see because of the children of Egypts bondage, Pharoah’s government gained wealth in spite of the corruption. However, we can see right now there have been some plagues to hit. Now is the time to put on the whole armour and get prepared for battle. I am taking back what is rightfully mine.
